No sewing, just cutting

Very, very occasionally I drop a clanger when fabric shopping, and I did it when I purchased the lining for my coat. I thought it was 150 wide and its 112, so there's no way I can squeeze out the pieces I need and I was so looking forward to working on it. Oh well, the main pieces are cut and marked and I've made a pattern piece for the fusible interfacing.

So this afternoon I have been looking at some of the new Vogue patterns and it struck ms that some of their photographs are a bit "dodgy". Anyone else noticed these?

I don't even need to comment!

Well dodgy right bodice.  Although I havejust purchased this pattern (blush)

Is this the front or back of the model?
How thin?!?!
Roll on Friday.  I'll have to go over to Newbury to buy more lining (no I will NOT make any further purchases) and can then crack on in the afternoon - all weekend to myself, bliss

Enjoy the rest of your day

In my dreams...

I   L O V E  this new Vogue pattern and know it will suit my figure beautifully - in my dreams...  I'd need to lose at least a stone and stretch my legs at least another 10 inches - oh-hum.  Here it is, my dream summer outfit:

In the meantime Ian's gone over to Ireland to visit relatives so I have a few days to myself.  It's great, the fridge is filled with salad, goats cheese, pineapple, mushrooms, cuscus, mango etc - you get the idea, all the things Ian won't eat!

I'm working on a blue spotty skirt and a casual white linen jacket for spring/summer - see, I'm sewing an outfit!  More later, The skirt's done and jacket's almost finished.

Have a lovely weekend all.

Dreadful photo's and Good News

Good News:  Sew Today have extended their offer until Sunday  - yay!

Dreadful Photos:  2 of me in recent skirts.  First the grey pinstripe discussed here and second the black work skirt discussed here - not so yay....

Constipated Duck impression - trying not to get frustrated with
Mum as she tries to push the button of a modern-fangled digital
camerathingermejig- Mum just push a button like the camera you have, except
there's no film it and no, I don't have to send the whole camera away to get
the pictures out - I love my Mum

""If I have to take a photo, it'll have to be now"
Thank you darling, you caught me at my best - did I mention I
need to get my hair done?
Having seen these two pictures I realise how much weight I have put on since moving to Wiltshire.  "Contentment" is what my lovely friends call it - I don't mix my words and call it fat.

Must dash, have patterns to buy and gym membership to sign!  Pass the crisps love....

Have a lovely weekend all - happy sewing!

A decent Vogue Pattern sale/offer at last in the UK!

Oh dear, I can hear my brain screeming "spend, spend, spend"!

At last there is a decent sale over at Sew Today (aka Vogue Patterns in my world).  Buy one get two (yes two!!) free.  I have loads of Vogue patterns I would like at the moment and as they are all in the £15 range I am just about to make a purchase - just imagine, 6 patterns for the price of 2!  The offer is open for 3 days from today to members and I think it's for online sales only - but at least it is an offer from them...

Our American friends probably aren't very inerested in my overexcitement, I read a lot about $3.99 offers at regular intervals - how I envy you.

Quick update, rather than blog twice in one day.  Here is what I have purchased (so far!)

everyone and their mother will be wearing this one,
it's hugely popular in blogland

This has some good reviews re fit

Sometimes a girl just needs a challenge

erm, not sure why I ordered this one?!  But it's been hanging
around my list for a while...

Love the simplicity of this dress and have ideas for
decoration

the long sleeved version jumped out at me - I have a plan
The offer relates to Vogue, Butterick and McCalls, but I just naturally navigate toward Vogue which is what all the above are.

Don't want to go to work, want to sew...

Look what I found!

With the move from Yorkshire to Wiltshire last year I had completely forgotten about these patterns and found them in the loft yesterday evening whilst organising the stash (yes, it's in the loft, we have no storage space in our house!).

Mum gave me them about 18 months ago.  One of her friends wife passed away in the late 80's and the family were still sorting through her belongings and he very kindly told Mum she could take whatever she liked from the sewing room.  Naturally Mum didn't want to raid the place so she took some patterns that she thought I might like and guessed the sizing (spot on Mum!) along with some lovely old thread and a small quantity of brocade.  I understand there was a huge stash of beautiful wool, tweed and silk and a tonne more patterns. It made me sad to think what the family may have done with it all, but am really pleased with the things Mum picked for me.
It makes me wonder what will happen to all my patterns, notations and stash when I go - hopefully I'll have worked through most of it by then!

On a lighter note, here are a couple of pictures of the waspie.  These photo's don't do the fabric nor colour any favours, but you get the general gist....

I just need to finish the ruffle centre with a row of sequins to match the top trim - but I haven't got those to hand so will have to purchase later this week.  I've fallen back in love with my ruffler - it was well behaved yesterday!

Not sure what the next project will be - I really should make another corset as I haven't done one for a while - what do you think?
